It’s because most business owners are terrible at it. Truthfully they would all be much better at it – if they took it a lot more seriously.
PREPARATION CHECKLIST for attending this NETWORKING EVENT:
1) Create a goal or goals. State what you need to achieve from attending this networking event. What do you want to learn? Who do you want to get introduced to? What kind of supplier are you looking for today or down the road?
2) Research who may attend this event and determine your approach. Arm yourself with insightful questions directly related to the particular interests or expertise of the person you need to connect with. Hint: You may want to contact the organizer and find out who is already planning on attending.
3) Develop a three-question audit to help you qualify interest and readily identify warm prospects.
Hint: Your questions should be designed to identify or uncover three different pain points your business can help with.
4) For those who qualify, ask for their card and plan to send them a follow-up email.
Hint: You may want to offer to conduct a more comprehensive audit focused on the pain point they were initially qualified for.
